Gallipoli – A Sparkling Pugliese Jewel!

An Enchanting, Beautiful City

Gallipoli literally meaning the “bella citta” (the beautiful city), has everything and more you could need for a beach side destination.  With its glistening turquoise waters and sandy beaches, beach lovers are in for a treat as they swim with the fishes and relax into the Gallipoli way of life.  The gentle tinkling of fisherman boats is enchanting, as you look out to the backdrop of an impressive castle, settle down to enjoy the magical aperitivo hour and get lost in the old, cobbled lane ways amongst the many delicious seafood restaurants, quaint shops and bars.  It’s easy to see how this special place stole our hearts.

Exploring beyond the Old Town

Everything here is full of local character, and I recommend getting out of the old town to experience all parts of Gallipoli.  The new town is full of lively piazza’s, cafés and great restaurants.  Even the main road along the water is worth a visit; lined with panini trucks where families and friends come together to enjoy simple produce, drink spritzers, eat gelato and watch children go on the Ferris wheel, as they enjoy their passegiato by the seafront.  For those that want to continue the party late into the night continue further along the road to Baia Verde to find several beach clubs and bars open till early in the morning.

Unique Charm & Laidback Living

At the heart, Gallipoli is very much still a rustic place, where roadworks remain unfinished, church bells ring at random times and fireworks might go off at any moment.  To us this just all added to the unique Gallipoli charm and laidback style of living.
