Bologna, is the lesser known city in Italy that can offer you a taste of the Dolce Vita life without all the crowds. If you are looking for a city brimming with delicious food, amazing architecture and steeped in unique history and culture, then this is the place for you. Here’s our recommendations to help you spritz up your trip to the beautiful Red City.
- Best Spritz – Ripasso – Lively street side bar where locals gather with groups of friends to enjoy spritzers served from huts for only 5 Euro’s.
- Best Restaurant – Casa Merlo – the truffle cheese doughnut is out of this world.
- Best traditional Trattoria – La Montara if you’re looking for a traditional taste of Bologna this is the place. Large portions at good prices in a lovely old style setting.
- Most interesting Bar – La Stanza – an amazing old converted church building which offers aperitivo snacks and additional outdoor seating.
- Best bar with a view – Signorvino is the perfect spot to relax over a good quality wine and antipasto platter and soak up the atmosphere and cathedral views in the Piazza Maggiore.
- Best Bakery / gelato – Matteo De Simoni (& Cremeria Retro if in the area), delicious creamy gelato at it’s best.
- Best Pizza – Zii Margaerita – very casual & local Napalese pizzeria spot which won’t leave you disappointed.
- Must do – Take a visit to the University 18th century anatomy museum at Museo di Palazzo Poggi for a unique collection and take the 3.5km climb through continuous portico’s on the Portico di San Luca UNESCO walk.
- Must Try – For me… Gnocchi Fritto with cheese and ham. For Andrew – Tortellini with mortadella and Tonno de vitello.
